Union/Map constructs are not a standard Fortran feature. A Fortran union works similar to a C union, indicating that the structure is composed of several fields, all of which share the same memory space. These fields are identified with map/end map statements. If you don’t have a clear understanding of unions, this would be a good time to check your Fortran compiler manual for more information.
